Why skin type matters
On oily skin, microblading strokes can blur and soften into a patchy look as they heal. Powder shading is designed to look soft, so it holds up better on oily or combination skin and on mature skin with less elasticity. If you have very dry skin and want a strokes-only look, microblading can heal crisply.
Which look do you want?
- Powder brows look like a brow filled in with powder or pencil. The front stays lighter and the tail more defined (the "ombré" effect), and you can choose soft or bolder.
- Microblading mimics individual hairs, which suits people with some brow hair who want the most natural "no-makeup" result.
- Combo brows mix strokes at the front with shading through the body and tail.
Healing
Both look darker for the first week, flake in week two, then can look patchy before settling. A touch-up about 6–8 weeks later perfects the shape and color. See brow aftercare.
