About permanent makeup

What is permanent makeup?

Permanent makeup (PMU) is cosmetic tattooing that places pigment in the upper layers of the skin to enhance brows, lips and more. It's often called semi-permanent because it gradually fades and needs occasional color boosts.

Does it hurt?

Numbing is applied before and during your session. Most clients describe mild pressure or scratching. Reviews regularly mention how light Erica's hand is.

How long does it last?

Typically one to three years for brows and a couple of years for lips before a color boost, depending on skin type, sun exposure and aftercare. See how long permanent makeup lasts.

Do I need a touch-up?

Yes. Most services include a touch-up about 6–8 weeks after the first session, once the skin has healed. It perfects color and evens out any light spots.

Can you fix old or faded permanent makeup?

Often, depending on the color and saturation of the old work. Bring it up at your consultation so Erica can assess it.

Before your appointment

Who shouldn't get permanent makeup?

Erica may ask you to wait, or to get your doctor's clearance, if you're pregnant or nursing, have an active skin condition or infection in the area, recently used isotretinoin (Accutane), are going through chemotherapy, take blood thinners, or scar easily or form keloids.

How should I prepare?

Avoid tanning and sunburn on the area, and skip retinol and exfoliating acids there for a couple of weeks before. Unless your doctor says otherwise, avoid alcohol and pain relievers that thin the blood the day before. For lips, tell Erica if you get cold sores. For brows, skip waxing or tinting in the days before.

Do you offer consultations?

Yes. Every treatment starts with a consultation to plan shape, color and timing, and to make sure the service is right for you.
